One of the oldest newspapers in British Columbia gets a new press machine.
"New Press Machine"
Photo Clip: Nanaimo Free Press (1955) Photographer: Art Pauls
The staff of the Nanaimo Free Press had gathered around their new machine as the first paper rolled from its press. While they were busy inspecting the fruits of their labour, their staff photographer began snapping some shots, shutter-happy after seeing that one of his photographs had reproduced almost to perfection.
The Nanaimo Free Press was the second oldest newspaper in Nanaimo and one of the oldest in British Columbia. It had already been servicing the community for 81 years by the time that first newspaper rolled from their new press in 1955. Today it is remembered as the Nanaimo Daily News which ceased operations in 2016.
