A busy street scene in early Victoria, British Columbia.
"1891::A Street Car on Government Street in Victoria, British Columbia"
Engraver: James Murray (?)
Photographer: James H. Brownlee (1856-1934)
A view from Government Street looking south from Yates Street. The scene was originally photographed in 1890 by famous map-maker and surveyor James H. Brownlee while he was vacationing in Victoria, and was later engraved by James Murray of J. Murray & Co. on Vancouver Island.
The post office to the right was soon replaced by a new post office located at Humboldt and Wharf Street, and the Colonist building soon moved to View and Broad Street.
