Artist: Clare Victor 'Dwig' Dwiggins, Cartoonist (1874–1958)
In 1909, a comic strip called School Days was introduced. It was the creation of cartoonist Clare Victor 'Dwig' Dwiggins, a Californian who had detoured his career path as an architect when his first published comic received overwhelming attention. School Days followed the same cast of young characters as they navigated their way through life, often with the help of their pets or guardian angels. It was featured in many prominent newspapers across North America and entertained a large fan base until the 1930s.
