Update: Thanks to comments from readers in Haida Gwaii who informed me that the source may have had the location wrong and that no such harbour seemed to exist in their area, I explored the entire British Columbia coastline on Google Earth in search of the harbour where the children are playing with their toy canoe. After reading dozens of pages of old surveyor notes, the key giveaway was the 'canoe-shaped mountain' in the distance. Taku Harbour is the harbour in the photo, not Haida Gwaii, as initially thought. The Toy Canoe story has been updated with this new information, and some backstory has been added.
Thank you for your patience. - Papertown Conductor
