1909::Hardy's Ghost and the Ghost Slayers of Foul Point in Victoria, British Columbia

https://www.papertownstation.com/post/1909-the-ghost-of-foul-point-on-vancouver-island

I came upon this story by accident while editing the Haunted House of Harling Point story. Funny enough, the two stories are related. I struggled to decide whether to include this story in the Haunted House story, but in the end, I felt the two stories could stand well enough on their own. You can consider it one story told in two parts. This would be Part One.

1913-1958::The Haunted House of Harling Point, Victoria, British Columbia

1913-1958::The Haunted House of Harling Point, Victoria, British Columbia

I discovered this story when I saw a photo of the spooky-looking house in a newspaper while researching a different story. And, of course, who doesn't love a good haunted house story? I had no choice. I had to look into it, and I'm glad I did. Upon its recent edit, however, I discovered another side to this story that had been well hidden. Again, while researching another story, I came across a report of a ghost sighting on Foul Point shortly before the haunted house was built (see Hardy's Ghost). I was going to blend the ghost-sighting story with the Haunted House story because the two are related. But I decided ultimately that both stories stand well on their own. You can consider that it is a story told in two parts. Hardy's Ghost story would be Part One, and this Haunted House story would be Part Two.

1928-1978::New Coaches for the New Vancouver Island Coach Lines

1928-1978::New Coaches for the New Vancouver Island Coach Lines

It seems strange to write about the significance of a bus service, but it's easy to overlook its place in history. For many Vancouver Islanders, a new bus service marked the beginning of mobility beyond the rails. In the 1920s, automobiles were still somewhat unaffordable, especially in an economy that had just weathered a World War and was about to enter a Great Depression. The rails were still a significant means of travel, but the Vancouver Island Coach Lines buses brought passengers beyond the rail towns, many of which had been bought out by wealthy vacationers. The coach service of the province was worth an honourable mention.

1933-1939::The City of Alanville

1933-1939::The City of Alanville

The City of Alanville story dates back to 2021, and surprisingly, not much changed during its 2024 edit. However, as I looked further into Mr. Clack's life, I discovered that his miniature city of Alanville was his stepping stone to a very long and distinguished career. I hope I have represented him well. What I could relate to most about this story was Clack's love for Victoria and Vancouver Island. For this reason, I wanted to share more details of his life dedicated to improving cities across the country by connecting modern-day designs to the past with a new way of thinking... which sounds familiar to this writer.
